Defenseman Picked Up Fourteen Penalty Minutes in Three Games with Hershey in Most Recent AHL Stint
Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the Bears have returned defenseman Patrick Wellar on loan to Reading. In a separate transaction also announced today, the Royals placed defenseman Edwin Shea on the team’s Reserve List. A ninth year pro from Carrot River, Saskatchewan, Wellar was returned to Hershey from Reading last Friday (December 7). He played three games with the Bears in his most recent AHL stint. Wellar, who also played in the Bears home opener on October 20, has twenty-one penalty minutes in four games with Hershey this season. He has recorded five points (1g-4a) and twenty-five penalty minutes in eighteen games with the Royals. Shea was signed by the Royals on Wednesday. He has yet to appear in a game with Reading this season. The Royals are back in action at the Sovereign Center tonight (Friday, December 14 @ 7:05 pm) when the Fort Wayne Komets make their first visit ever to Reading.
