Royals Release Goaltender Nick Niedert and Activate Forward Jesse Todd from Reserve List

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Philipp Grubauer has been reassigned by the Capitals from the Bears to the Royals. In separate transactions, the Royals also: (i) released goaltender Nick Niedert from his ECHL contract; and (ii) activated forward Jesse Todd from the Reserve List. Grubauer, a second year pro from Rosenheim, Germany, started the season with Reading and compiled a 0-2-0-0 record and a 2.56 goals against average and a .900 save percentage in two appearances with the Royals. He was recalled to Hershey on October 19 and saw his first action in the AHL last Sunday (October 21), making twenty-four saves (and earning the third star) in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Binghamton Senators. In his first game as a Royal, Niedert, an eighth year pro from Hudson, Iowa, made twenty saves in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Wheeling Nailers in Wheeling, West Virginia, last night. Todd, a first year pro from Calgary, Alberta, has yet to appear in a game for the Royals this season. The Royals return to action this evening (Sunday, October 28 @ 5:05 pm), when the Toledo Walleye visit the Sovereign Center and the first 1000 kids fourteen and younger will receive a Jonathan Quick T-shirt courtesy of Metro Bank. There will also be a post-game ‘Bring Your Own Skates’ post-game skate with the players presented by the Body Zone Sports & Wellness Complex.
