Cayer Played Last Season for Clarkson University While Clarke Completed Major Junior Career in the ‘Q’

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Julien Cayer and defenseman Garrett Clarke. Cayer and Clarke bring the total number of players announced as signed by the Royals for the 2012-13 season to fourteen, as they join forwards Ethan Cox, Tyler Gron, Chris Langkow, Trevor Lewis, Ian O’Connor, Yannick Tifu, and Jesse Todd; and defensemen Adam Comrie, Derrick LaPoint, Bryant Molle, Denny Urban and Brad Walch. Last year, Cayer, (6’4/193) (23), a first year pro from Longueuil, Quebec, scored five goals, assisted on five others (ten points) and picked up thirty penalty minutes in thirty games during his senior season at Clarkson University. A fifth round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Cayer registered thirty-three points (14g-19a) and 100 penalty minutes in 104 total collegiate games over four seasons with the Golden Knights. Clarke (6’0/202) (19), who hails from Windsor, Nova Scotia, is also entering his first full season of pro. Last year, he split the regular season between the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Gatineau Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, registering thirty-seven points (9g-28a) and 153 penalty minutes in fifty-five total games. Clarke also recorded six penalty minutes in two playoff games with Gatineau. Clarke then joined the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League for one playoff game. Clarke, who attended Toronto Maple Leafs rookie camp in September of 2011, scored twenty-seven goals, assisted on seventy others (ninety-seven points) and racked up 540 penalty minutes in 203 total QMJHL games over four seasons.
