Royals Coach Larry Courville Climbs into Second All-Time for ECHL Wins with a Single Team

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today are proud to announce that Head Coach Larry Courville has jumped into second place all-time for ECHL regular season wins with a single team.

Courville, who is in his eighth full season in Reading, has compiled a record of 311-189-25-26 (.611 win percentage) in 551 regular season games with the team. The Royals' 6-3 win over the Rapid City Rush on Friday (Courville’s 310th) jumped him over Jeff Pyle, who won 309 games with the Gwinnett Gladiators from 2003-11. The only coach in ECHL history who has won more games with a single team than Courville is John Brophy, who won 416 games with the Hampton Roads Admirals from 1989-2000.

Courville is currently tenth all-time in total games coached in the ECHL (551)—two behind Nick Vitucci. There are only two coaches in the history of the league who have coached as many games as Courville and have a higher overall win percentage: (i) Jason Christie, currently with the Tulsa Oilers (946 total games) (529-314-103 = .614); and (ii) Malcolm Cameron, currently with the Wichita Thunder (561 total games) (321-172-66 = .631).

Courville, who led the Royals to the 2013 Kelly Cup Championship, is currently ninth all time in the league with 311 total career wins, six behind Jeff Brubaker (317). Jason Christie is the all-time leader for regular season career wins with 529.

After this recent 4-1-0-1 run on the first six games of an eight game road trip, Courville’s teams have now amassed more wins on the road (156) (156-92-17-12 = .616) than on home ice (155) (155-97-8-14 = .606).
