Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (5-6-2), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Maine Mariners (4-5-0) in overtime, 3-2, at Cross Insurance Arena on Wednesday, November 13th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (3-1-1) suffered the loss with 35 saves on 38 shots faced. Mariners’ goaltender Ryan Bischel (3-1-0) earned the win in goal with 21 saves on 23 shots faced.

Neither team found the back of the net through the opening 40 minutes with Reading totaling 13 shots and Maine registering 23 shots. Reading broke the scoreless tie 1:08 into the third period on a redirection from a Tyler Gratton wrist shot from Todd Skirving for his fifth goal of the season. Robbie Stucker earned the secondary assist for his first of two assists and points in a first multi-point game as a Royal.

Maine evened the score back up 37 seconds later on Patrick Guay’s team-leading fourth goal of the season with a wrist shot over Petruzzelli’s left shoulder. Evan Vieling and Mason Millman earned the assists on the first goal of the game for the Mariners.

Reading restored their one-goal lead on a Gianfranco Cassaro power play blast from the top of the right face-off circle at 8:05 into the third period, 2-1. Stucker and Jake Smith earned the assists on Cassaro’s third goal of the season that held the Royals in front until Maine tied the score with 7.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Brooklyn Kalmikov snapped a loose puck out of the slot over Petruzzelli’s out-stretched glove to net the equalizer at 19:53 and force overtime.

The Mariners won the opening draw and Jimmy Lambert went coast-to-coast into Reading’s zone and rifled a wrist shot past Petruzzelli to net the game-winner and seal the come-from-behind win for Maine. With the overtime loss, Reading fell to 0-2 in post-regulation games this season and 0-2-1 in their season series with Maine.

The Royals continue a five-game road stretch against the Adirondack Thunder in three-straight games at Cool Insuring Arena on Friday, November 15th at 7:00 PM, Saturday, November 16th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, November 17th at 3:00 PM.

The Royals return home on Friday, November 22nd to open a two-game home stint with the opener against the Norfolk Admirals at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena before the home stand finale against the Maine Mariners on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena.
